La labor científica del médico Leopoldo Salazar Viniegra en México y el Reglamento Federal de Toxicomanías de 1940
Abstract
This article gives an account of the scientific work of Dr. Leopoldo Salazar, who dedicated himself to studying the psychiatric and criminal associations of marijuana users; his work developed a social medicine that led him to propose a look at the addict and end punitive prohibitionism. His opinions were considered by the public health authorities and President Lázaro Cárdenas, who in 1940 decreed the Federal Regulation of Drug Addiction. The sovereignty of the Mexican government faced the opposition of the United States, which decreed a boycott of medicines and toxic substances vital to medical practice, finally, in the context of the Second World War, four months later the Regulation was suspended.Additional Files
