Abstract

This article analyzes in a general way the relationship between the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic and industrial (mass production) animal husbandry farms (wild and domestic). The fact that the origin of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 disease, has not been conclusively determined, and even though the WHO has preferentially considered the animal origin (zoonotic hypothesis), ruling out the hypothesis of the escape of the coronavirus in a laboratory, there are aspects that due to the previous history of influenza pandemics (2003 H5NI avian influenza and 2009 H1N1 swine influenza) raise the need to review the role played by transnational companies in the food chain, as well as the strategies of these companies to shape regulations in this area at their convenience.
