Abstract

In this work, we discuss the importance of self-ascription that the native peoples of Mexico City have for the exercise of their rights and the challenges of identity in modern societies. We critically analyze, from legal and State anthropology, the Registration and Documentation System of native peoples and neighborhoods, and resident indigenous communities, issued by the Secretariat of Native and Resident Indigenous Peoples and Neighborhoods (SEPI) of the Government of Mexico City. We evidence various arguments contained in the amicus curiae presented in the TECDMX-JLDC-07/2023 trial and accumulated with the purpose of providing tools and arguments from legal and State anthropology for the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples and neighborhoods.
